Our first PBL in English 9 will consist of creating a school news program. Let's start with some pre-planning questions:
1. What does a school news report consist of?
2. Who will be able to watch the school news?
3. How will the news be shared with students, staff, and possible the community?
4. How often should the school news be filmed?
Answers to Pre-Planning Questions
1. Some ideas for the school news report: Fall Sports, Academic Teams, Club Meetings, Current Fundraisers, Band Performances, College Month, Classroom Happenings, Community Events, Weather Outlook, Dances
2. Students have the option to share the news only at school or make more public to the community. We must also check the school handbook for recording of students policies. Someone can look that up.
3. Will we share through a website, through a youtube channel we create, or another way such as the school Facebook page.
4. Should we write and develop weekly news, or news a few days a week? What do we think we can realistically handle and do a good job?
Resources to use as we plan our School News:
Example of other high school's student news and a How To video
